Schools Poetry Slam!
Come along and support our ‘young people’ in a Poetry Slam!
Primary and Upper schools have been working on writing their own poems on War – Conflict – Poetry – Peace. We will be following the ethos of a Slam – with lots of clapping and stamping of feet, in response to the readings. Schools will be performing in their groups, their own written poems and in addition there will be readings of other works. Primary schools taking part are having a day workshop led by The Emergency Poet, Deborah Alma;
‘I love bringing the ambulance and the attached awning into the school playground or field to have fun with poetry. Young people love the ‘outside of school’ environment.
Successful school topics in the past have been the Minor Horrors of War, the pests and diseases in the First World War, complete with rat and George’s Marvellous Medicine. ‘
I am sure these workshops will produce some very interesting poems – for the Slam!
Upper schools will take the subject further – giving us poems with depth, as how our teenagers of today see war past and present. Students will also be reading other works. There will be a presentation and a chance for the audience to show their appreciation – of our ‘talented young people’ – who speak from their heart.
‘Our past is their future’.
With thanks to The Marches for holding this exciting Festival Event!
